VANGUARD production of hydroelectric power has a long history. In 1959, according to the need of the country construction, produced all kind of medium, small hydropower equipment. In 2009, VANGUARD established the new manufacturing base with an area of 320 thousand square meters in Changsha and built the hydropower equipment joint workshop of unit production capacity is 200MW and annual output 1000MW. Now the company has the capacity to design and manufacture various kind of water head type: Pelton type, Turgo type, Kaplan type, Propellor type, Francis type and Tubular type, series of medium and small water turbine set and can supply installation, commissioning, operation of the integrative service. At present, the company product sold all over the country and exported to Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Laos, Myanmar, north Korea, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Kazakhstan and other countries, and the company's brand has become the preferred brand of medium, small hydro power stations in china.

The company established the hydro power equipment engineering and technology center with Tsinghua University, Nanjing Hehai University and china IWHR etc.. In 2002, the company invested more than 50 million RMB to establish a R&D center. In 2013 the company invested more than 1 billion RMB to establish the design, manufacture and testing of new hydro power manufacturing base in Changsha city, Hunan province, with a annual production capacity of 1 million kw hydro-generator units.
