Not long ago, I was discussing something with an acquaintance about our economy and various other topics of interest. He indicated to me that he was well versed in business finance, and that got me thinking a bit. Business Finance can mean just about anything can't it - everything from tax-planning, to IPO legal paperwork, and from SBA Loans to mortgages on business properties. So, I suppose folks need to be more specific in this case.
Thus, if you too are in any of the related subsectors of business finance, maybe you might be more specific yourself when you are out in public, as you never know who knows whom. What is it that you actually specialize in, ask yourself that? Is it financing and lending, fundraising, factoring and capital procurement" are you speaking to all aspects of venture capital, investment banking, cash flow reserves, limited partnerships, and for what sectors are you specializing in? Mostly international businesses or across the board - what size businesses - that is to say; what level of capital; under 1M, 2-5M, 10-50M, more? Where do you excel, what is your favorite niche?
If you are involved in business funding of any type startup are otherwise, you need to define your niche carefully so you don't waste your time fielding comments and questions from people you never intend to do business with. Now you may think that if the right deal comes along you'll figure it out and try to get it done, and that's very entrepreneurial of you, but you are doing yourself any favors, you are liable to spend a lot of time and never get the deal done, or get yourself into legal problems.
So when you say you are in business startup funding, please be more specific, as that is fair for all concerned - unless of course it is your intention to be misinterpreted, or to misrepresent yourself, and in which case, go take an ethics class for me. Please consider all this.
